Senator Vickie Sawyer Named 2023 NCTIA Legislator of the Year

Senator Vickie Sawyer of Iredell/Mecklenburg was honored as the 2023 Legislator of the Year at the North Carolina Tourism Industry Associations (NCTIA) Public Policy Dinner, a key highlight of the NCTIA Tourism Leadership Conference held on November 15-16 at the Westin Raleigh Hotel. 
The inaugural dinner, attended by industry leaders and dignitaries, celebrated Senator Sawyer's significant contributions to the tourism sector. Recognized for her pivotal role in enacting the Hotel Safety Act and her unwavering support of NCTIA's workforce development initiatives within her district, Senator Sawyer was hailed as a steadfast ally to the tourism industry.
Vince Chelena, Executive Director of NCTIA, expressed gratitude for Senator Sawyer's dedication, stating, “Senator Sawyer sponsored and enacted the Hotel Safety Act, supported NCTIA’s workforce development work in her district, and has been a reliable friend to tourism.” 
Upon receiving the esteemed accolade, Senator Vickie Sawyer remarked, "I am deeply humbled and honored to be recognized as the 2023 Legislator of the Year by the esteemed North Carolina travel & tourism industry. Together, we are fostering an environment that not only attracts visitors from far and wide but also showcases the rich cultural heritage and natural beauty that makes North Carolina truly exceptional."


The event also witnessed the presence of Cindy Sutton, Executive Director of the Statesville Convention & Visitors Bureau (SCVB), a proud member of NCTIA.
